New Aged-Care Building Opens in Campbelltown
2nd August 2010
The Minister for Ageing and Disability Services, Peter Primrose, today officially launched the Macarthur Diversity Services Initiative (MDSI) aged care facility in Campbelltown, along with the Member for Campbelltown, Graham West.

NSW Seniors Week 2010 Achievement Awards
21st March 2010
Minister for Ageing Paul Lynch has paid tribute to the dedication of New South Wales seniors at an awards ceremony in Sydney today. Mr Lynch presented awards to more than 60 seniors and seniors’ organisations at the NSW Seniors Week 2010 Achievement Awards, held at the City Recital Hall.

Celebrating Diversity Art Exhibition
12th March 2010
MDSI has a long history assisting migrants and refugees settle into the Macarthur area.. Through this journey we have used art medium as a way to reach out to people to improve their self esteem, as therapy, or learn a new skill, to meet people and to express their thoughts and feelings like they have never been able to do so before.

MDSI Raising Awareness of Breast Cancer
3rd November 2009
The Health seminar will provide appropriate information on Cervical and Breast Cancer for women from diverse cultural backgrounds living in Macarthur. Attendees will learn about the prevention of breast and cervical cancer in a relaxed and friendly environment, as well as having the opportunity to speak with health professionals personally.

Arabic Foster Care Information Session
8th October 2009
Topics to be covered: What is Foster care, types of Foster care, what are children needing foster care like, qualities we are looking for in Carers, support carers given, the experience of being a carer, Criteria for being a carer, process of becoming a carer and some DoCS policies regarding children in care.

Anti Poverty Week BBQ
1st October 2009
Anti Poverty week focuses on poverty around the world, especially in the poorest countries but also in wealthier countries such as Australia. Its main aims are to strengthen public understanding of the causes and consequences of poverty and hardship around the world and within Australia; encourage research, discussion and action to address these problems, including action by individuals, communities, organisations and governments.

End of Ramadan – Eid event
28th September 2009
End of Ramadan event was successful as usual, the sky was smiling at us and by 12:00 noon the number of people was about 150, and people kept on coming up until the end of the event. Many attending the event for the first time, some took time off from their work to come and enjoy the day. The invitation was open to all and many non Muslims attended and enjoyed the friendly, happy atmosphere as well as the food and the Baklava.

Arabic Playgroups
20th July 2009
We invite families of the Arabic speaking community to come along and visit both playgroups. Playgroups often provide the first step for parents to become more involved in the community and they are great opportunity for families to interact through play, reading and craft. Parents are provided with information an effective parenting, child development, healthy eating and other interesting topics.

MDSI Launches Sustainability Project
1st June 2009
The project is designed to promote awareness, knowledge and understanding among specific ethnic communities about ways to live more sustainably. Educational workshops will be held at Macarthur Diversity Services for people from four ethnic background including Arabic, Vietnamese, Tongan and Pilipino communities in community languages.

Refugee Camp in the Heart of the City
6th May 2009
MDSI is working in partnership with Campbelltown Council on an exciting project based on the Doctor’s without Borders’ “Refugee Camp in the heart of the city”. We are looking at having our first camp in Campbelltown during Riverfest which is an annual community festival celebrating the environment and cultural diversity and again in June during Refugee week.

International Womens Days

The Multicultural Women Art Cooperative consists of Migrant and Refugee Women of all ages. This is a friendly and creative group where women make friends and learn new skills.

Writing For Life Project Launch
25th November 2008
“Writing for Life” is a joint project between Campbelltown Public School, Macarthur Diversity Services (MDSI) and the Dept of Education & Training Campbelltown Office. It was initiated by Campbelltown Arabic Women’s Support Group.
The project aimed to provide Refugee and Migrant Women from Arabic speaking backgrounds with many tears and much laughter, it gave them the opportunity to share their feelings and life experiences in their own language, or in English as well as reinforcing the important of Multiculturalism in our Society.
