Macarthur diversity services celebrated the end of Ramadan in Koshigaya Park on Thursday the 24th September. Ramadan is a month of fasting and spiritual reflection, the event allowed Muslim refugees to feel part of the Macarthur community.

Macarthur Diversity Services was successful in the application for a Community Partners Program. This program will assist aged people from CALD backgrounds in accessing aged care services, by providing information and education, as well as identifying and removing barriers that CALD clients may face with Language of information and resources.

Diversity and Sustainability

The Arabic-speaking community is learning about Sustainable living every Thursday for seven weeks from 10am. The workshops will focus on Energy and water conservation, recycling and waste minimization, sustainable gardening, composting and worm farming.
   

Women’s work is wheel work

August 2009
 
Women from different countries come together to celebrate their diversity through Craft. The workshops are hosted by MDSI in partnership with Camden Council and allow women to express themselves through various forms of craft activities including; Spinning, Knitting and Sewing. The final products will be exhibited at Camden Civic Centre next May.

This group also participated in the Australias Largest Morning Tea to raise money for Cancer Council and raised $1,309.55. Wow!

   

Little Squares a Big Leap to Harmony

Playgroup Links Families to Support - New Arabic Playgroup opened in Campbelltown

Beating the Barriers

Family Settlement Worker Ms Sana Al Ahmar talks to the Macarthur Chronicle about the Beating the Barriers project. The MDSI Art Diversity group came up with the idea of making three quilts to represent their feelings about domestic and family violence. The group was taught techniques of appliqué, embroidery, design, fabric painting and crazy patchwork as part of the project. The 3 quilts represent: Problems, Hope and Solutions. The quilts will be used as part of the 16 days of action against domestic violence in December 2008.

Seminar to Help Poor

MDSI Executive Officer Ms Karin Vasquez lead a seminar in Macarthur as part of anti-poverty week. The anti poverty seminar was provided by MDSI in partnership with Campbelltown City Council. Visiting quest speaker human rights commissioner Mr Graeme Innes said that homelessness, apart from being a sign on living in poverty was a human rights issue.
